Understanding the PST Database Structure
When you have completed the download procedure, you should have a directory structure that is similar to the following (assuming that you placed it on your C: disk drive):
As downloaded, the database structure includes:
1. In general, you should copy topical Bible study files (.htm and .doc) into the directory for appropriate major category. For example, Bible study notes on the Person and Work of our Lord Jesus Christ should be copied to the C:\NOTEBOOK_PST\BaseT\CHRIS directory. If you are not sure which major category contains a particular topic, look in the Index for the topic in question, and note the volume number at the beginning of the reference number in the far left column. For example,
§ 76C2 Heathenism ~God Consciousness~ § 53E2 Satan Cast Out of Heaven § 103B The Church in Heaven
the Heathenism subject belongs in Volume 7—Soteriology, and any documents about Heathenism should be stored in the C:\NOTEBOOK_PST\BaseT\SOTER directory. The subject of Satan's being cast out of Heaven belongs in Volume 5—Angelogy, and any documents about Satan should be stored in the C:\NOTEBOOK_PST\BaseT\ANGEL directory. The subject of the Church in Heaven belongs in Volume 10—Eschatology, and any documents about future things should be stored in the C:\NOTEBOOK_PST\BaseT\ESCHA directory.
2. The Site Map belongs in the C:\NOTEBOOK_PST\BaseT directory. It is a logical place for you to begin. From here, with a mouse click, you can access any of the Tables of Contents, the master Index, the Glossary, and other files. Before you can link to the Index or Glossary, you must download them individually. They are too large to have been included in your original download. (By the way, if the arrows in the Site Map are not positioned properly, try clicking the "Refresh" button. They are calibrated for a 1024 x 768 screen size.)
3. Having downloaded this structure, you can link your own topical Bible notes into it. There is a web page that explains the use of the SAMs (Summary And Master User E-Links). It wil also help you make your own, if necessary.
In many of the directories you will find a file named overlib.js. This file is the Java Script file which displays the Bible verses at this site (e.g. 2 Pet 3:18). It was developed by Erik Bosrup and is used by many other websites, including NASA's Kennedy Space Center ( http://www.ksc.nasa.gov/ ). We appreciate Erik's allowing us to use it. If you wish to use the Java script for your application, you may download it from http://www.bosrup.com/web/overlib/.
